Havana, Cuba

Since I was a child I have always wanted to visit Cuba. Cuba is Jamaica’s closest neighbor- I was told if I climbed Blue Mountain and if it was a really clear day, I could see Cuba… I did not see Cuba. Fast forward to eight years and I had the opportunity to visit Cuba and experience the history and culture. This remains one of my favorite trips and I know for sure I will be back to soak up more of the Cuban culture.

I was in Cuba for five and a half days and while I did get to see and do a lot, I still feel like I didn’t get to experience everything. We landed on Friday September 20th in Havana and drove for two hours to the beach town of Varadero. Spending a day and a half in Varadero was exactly what I needed to get acclimatized to Cuba. Varadero is laid back with a long beach stretch. I think September is off season because not a lot of persons were there- which is great!

From Varadero we then went on to stay in Old Havana and it was beyond lovely! We stayed at an Airbnb that was within walking distance to the Capital building and La Floridita. We did and saw so much because of where we stayed. Below is a look at all the things we did while in Cuba.

Overall, this was an amazing trip and I had such a great time! If Cuba is not on your list- do yourself a favor and add it! Here is our “Cuba Bucket List”

  • Spend the Day on the Beach in Varadero
  • Dinner at La Bodegutia
  • Sunset at the top of Hotem Ambos Mundos
  • See Havana in a Classic Car Tour!
  • Have a Daquiri at La Floridita
  • Learn Salsa Dancing in Havanan
  • Have dinner in Plaza De Veija
  • Have Dinner at the famous La Guiarida
  • Visit San Carlos Fortress and see the Cannon Show!

Still so much to do in Cuba, but this was a great start!
